Keto bagel recipe using almond flour:

This simple keto bagel recipe is a staple in our home. Nothing compares to a freshly baked keto bagel and cream cheese, or a keto bagel breakfast sandwich. My hubby’s favorite is a keto bagel and lox. These light and fluffy almond flour keto fathead dough bagels pair perfectly with smoked salmon.

Not only are keto bagels absolutely delicious, with only 5 net carbs keto bagels are the only way to enjoy a bagel! You just can’t beat these keto bagels macros.

Keto Bagel Flavor Variations

My favorite keto bagel toppings are jalapenos with cheddar, everything but the bagel seasoning, and sesame seeds. For all of your bagel toppings add them prior to baking the bagels. Are you a fan of garlic? Add some granulated garlic to the top of your dough, and some One on One garlic flavor concentrates in the batter. For a sweet alternative add cinnamon and sugar to take this keto bagel dough to a whole new level.

To achieve a true garlic flavor, but also keep this recipe keto-friendly I love to use One on One’s flavor concentrates. Garlic packs a high carb punch, so these flavors are my secret weapon. You will see I use them in the majority of my recipes. I love being able to flavor my keto foods and spare myself the carbs that it would otherwise take to develop that flavor profile. I have to be honest I attempted to make a blueberry keto bagel with this recipe, and it was a total failure. Which is how I came up with my recipe for blueberry pull-apart bread. The moral of that story is if you also love blueberry bagels, do not try to make blueberry bagels. Instead, make blueberry pull-apart monkey bread.

The keto bagel possibilities are endless

Keto bagels for breakfast

I love to eat my keto bagel and cream cheese with eggs and bacon. I never grow tired of this keto-friendly bread-like substitute. Another favorite of mine is sitting down with a large cup of keto coffee and a keto bagel.

Are you craving a keto bagel for lunch?

I personally love to make keto bagel pizzas for lunch. Using already baked keto bagels makes this a very simple keto-friendly meal. Keto pizza bagels are the perfect way to use up already baked keto bagels. Just cut the bagels in half and top with your favorite pizza toppings. Baking the keto pizza bagels is easy, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake until cheese is melted and starts to brown. This takes approximately 10 minutes. If you have an air fryer handy you can also heat your keto bagel pizza in an air fryer. I love to use my air fryer for heating up recipes just like this.

What is the difference in this keto-friendly bagel dough recipe?

This keto bagel dough is your typical fathead dough. In this recipe, we are using extra baking powder. The extra baking powder used in this recipe creates the perfect light and fluffy baked bagel. I prefer this result over a much more dense keto bagel, or a bagel that does not rise at all.

Keto bagels don’t rise: FALSE

If you have attempted baking keto bagels and they did not rise, this might be why. Adding extra baking powder made all the difference for me. I have also found that the baking pan is essential for a good rise on a keto bagel.

The best pan for baking bagels is:

The best pan for baking keto-friendly bagels is a doughnut pan. The doughnut pan really helps the bagels keep their shape and rise. It is important to remember that the majority of the ingredients in fathead dough is cheese. Baking keto bagels on a baking sheet allows the bagels to spread and flatten. The doughnut pan does not allow the bagel to spread and even helps the bagel keep the perfect bagel shape.

If you want to make keto bagel buns a baking sheet will work just fine. If you do not have a doughnut pan on hand I love this one, it is what I use in my kitchen. Don’t let a doughnut pan stop you from enjoying a keto bagel. I just want you to know why I prefer to use a doughnut pan.

When the bagels end up a little more flat I like to top them with extra fun ingredients, think keto bagel bread. I love to use these bagels for an open-faced sandwich as well.

Looking for a time-saving trick so you can enjoy these bagels more often?

I have a secret for you, and I think you are going to love it. The secret to a quick keto-friendly bagel is having bagels in the freezer ready to bake. Follow all the instructions below to prepare your keto bagel dough, and form the dough into the bagel round shape. This is where my handy secret comes in. The raw keto bagel dough can be frozen, and then baked fresh when you want a keto bagel in a pinch.

I like to make a dozen bagels at a time, so I double this recipe. I form the bagels and freeze them all on a baking sheet. Once the bagels have frozen completely I place them into a freezer-safe Ziploc. When you are ready to bake the keto bagels: pop the frozen bagel straight into the doughnut pan. You can also bake the bagels on a baking sheet, the result will be a much flatter bagel. I like to bake the bagels on a baking sheet when I want to top them, instead of cutting them in half. When baking the keto bagels from the freezer the bake time is slightly longer. It is best to reduce the oven temp to 375 degrees and bake for a little longer 20-24 minutes.

keto friendly fathead bagels fresh out of the oven

These are the best keto bagels because of one simple change in the ingredients.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

  • 2.5 cups freshly grated mozzarella
  • 2 oz. Cream Cheese
  • 1.5 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1.5 tbsp baking powder
  • 2 room temperature eggs

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. Sift almond flour and baking powder into a Mixing bowl. Sifting almond flour makes it very easy to mix without getting any clumps.
  3. Place Mozzarella and Cream Cheese into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave cheese mixture for 30 seconds and then stir. Microwave for an additional 30 seconds and stir. Since microwave temperatures vary continue this step one or two more times if the cheese mixture is not hot enough. You want the cheese to be very melted but not starting to burn.
  4. While you melt the cheese in the microwave add your eggs to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined using a stand mixer or by hand.
  5. Take the melted cheese directly from the microwave and add it to your flour mixture. Knead the dough until very well incorporated. I like to use my stand mixer because I get a nice fluffy dough for the bagels.
  6. Chill the dough. This step is crucial and makes the dough much easier to work with. Fathead dough, in general, is very sticky and hard to handle unless it has the proper time to chill. If you’re on a time crunch place the dough in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes.
  7. Roll the dough into cylinders and form your bagels. Top with your favorite seasonings: everything but the bagel, pizza, jalapeno cheddar, and sesame seeds to name a few. For best results bake the bagels in a doughnut pan. This helps the bagels keep their shape.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
